# How to Set Up Stripe Payments in Lumo Forms

## Overview

Payment forms allow businesses to collect payments directly through their websites. Before accepting real transactions with Lumo Forms, you should configure the payment gateway, create a payment-ready form, and test the complete flow.

The exact Stripe settings and supported payment methods depend on your installed Lumo Forms version.

## Step 1: Prepare Your Stripe Account

Create or sign in to your Stripe account and complete any required account verification.

Check that your business, payout, and payment settings are configured for your intended use.

## Step 2: Connect Stripe

Open the payment integration settings provided by your Lumo Forms version.

Follow the plugin's instructions to connect Stripe using its supported authorization method or API credentials.

Use test credentials in a test environment and live credentials only when you are ready to accept real payments. Never expose secret keys in frontend code or public documentation.

## Step 3: Create a Payment Form

Create a new form and add the fields needed to collect the customer's information.

If your version supports payment fields, payment items, or a payment summary, configure them according to the product or service you are selling.

Make the total and currency clear to customers before they submit payment.

## Step 4: Configure the Payment Action

Select Stripe as the gateway if the form's payment settings provide that option.

Review the available transaction type and amount settings. Do not assume that recurring subscriptions, refunds, or every payment method are supported unless the installed version explicitly provides them.

## Step 5: Test a Transaction

Use Stripe's official test mode and test payment details.

Verify that:

- The expected total is displayed.
- Invalid payment attempts are handled correctly.
- A successful test transaction produces the expected result.
- The associated form entry records the available payment details.
- Failed payments are not incorrectly treated as successful.

The server should calculate or verify payable totals and confirm payment status before marking a payment as complete.

## Step 6: Go Live Carefully

After successful testing, review your account settings, site security, currency, customer messaging, and refund process.

Switch to live credentials only when you are confident that the complete workflow behaves correctly.

## Troubleshooting

If payments fail, review the gateway connection, test/live mode, currency compatibility, server logs, and gateway error messages.

For a payment that appears successful in Stripe but not in your website, check the payment verification and webhook handling rather than relying solely on the browser's success screen.
