# How to Create Your First Form with Lumo Forms

## Overview

A well-designed form makes it easier for visitors to contact your business, request information, or share feedback. Lumo Forms provides a drag-and-drop form builder to help you create forms directly in WordPress.

Follow these steps to build a simple contact form.

## Step 1: Open the Form Builder

Log in to WordPress and open Lumo Forms. Start creating a new form.

Depending on your installed version, you may be able to choose a template or begin with a blank form. A template can save time when building a common form.

## Step 2: Add the Required Fields

For a basic contact form, add these fields:

- **Name:** Identify the person contacting you.
- **Email:** Provide an address for your reply.
- **Text Area:** Allow visitors to explain their questions or requests.

Add a field by selecting or dragging it from the available field list into the form layout, according to your builder's interface.

## Step 3: Configure Each Field

Select a field to adjust its available settings.

Use clear labels, helpful descriptions, and meaningful placeholders where appropriate.

For example:

- Name label: Full Name
- Email label: Email Address
- Message label: How Can We Help You?

Mark essential fields as required, but avoid making every field mandatory. Shorter forms are often easier for visitors to complete.

## Step 4: Arrange and Preview the Form

Arrange fields in a logical order. Ask for basic contact details before the longer message field.

Use the preview to check how the form looks. Review spacing, labels, field widths, and the submit button on desktop and mobile devices.

## Step 5: Configure Submission Handling

Review the available form settings for submission behavior, confirmation messages, and email notifications.

If email notifications are supported by your configuration, choose the appropriate recipient and message details. Avoid assuming that a successful submission automatically means an email was delivered.

## Step 6: Save and Test

Save the form and submit a test entry from the preview or published page.

Check that:

- Required fields prevent incomplete submissions.
- Invalid email addresses are handled correctly.
- The confirmation message appears as expected.
- The submission is stored if entry storage is enabled.
- Any configured notification reaches the intended recipient.

## Best Practices

Keep forms focused on one purpose. Use descriptive labels and explain why sensitive information is needed. Test the form with realistic examples before making it available to visitors.

## Next Steps

Once your form is ready, embed it in a WordPress page using the Lumo Forms shortcode or Gutenberg block available in your installed version.
